EARTHDECO
Our Design Aesthetic: A Few Random Aphorisms

WHY BE BORING?
Consistency in style = lack of imagination.
One EXOTIC piece can make even the most Puritanical New England home seem a bit naughty.  True even of our boxy strip-mall gallery.

WHY LIVE INDOORS?
NATURAL materials are always better.  We especially love RECLAIMED and WOVEN materials.
Flowing ORGANIC forms rule.
No space is well-designed if it isn't aroused by what's OUTSIDE the windows.

WHY BE COLD?
The COLOR, LIGHT, and ENERGY of the tropics breathe life and warmth into everything.
Art and design should be PERSONAL and pleasurable.
The idea that something is hand-crafted - knowing that someone TOUCHED this object and thought in-depth about the person who was going to use it, i.e. you or me - is incredibly EXCITING.

WHY BE SERIOUS?
Art and design, and the places we live, should be fun and JOYFUL.
Zen is fresh and serene, but it's not for everything.  A little ORNAMENT does wonders to break up all that sobriety.
Face it: art and design have no real purpose other than as forms of PLAY.

WHY SHOULD A CHAIR BE A CHAIR?
Answer: when it's also a SCULPTURE?  A comfortable sculpture.
DREAMS and fantasy are as important as utility.

WHY GO CRAZY?
Contemporary art and design are best when they're comfortable, casual, simple, digestible - in other words, HUMAN.
Yes, nature is the ideal, but we live in a technological world. The two have to co-exist.  It's the MIDDLE WAY.
RETRO is cool, but not to the exclusion of the now.

WHY QUIT?
A room, a home, a building, a life, they're NEVER DONE.

WHY BE IRRESPONSIBLE?
If done right, global trade can be not only sustainable, but a FORCE FOR GOOD in the world.

WHY BE INCONSIDERATE?
Despite the manifesto above, we're most concerned about what YOU want.  No dogmas.  We like learning from others.  Somehow, it seems more intelligent, more GENEROUS.  Contact us and let us know what you think.
